Okay. I have been on an extreme hiatus from posting new guitar lessons. I have taken a very long sabbatical. lol. This time I have taken off from music has really allowed me to reflect on a couple of things. More importantly, I think, given me an opportunity to explore other genres of music, literature, ideologies, etc. that will end up contributing to the EP i'm working. I have not forgotten about the EP.
I was going to do a cover EP but decided to take another direction on the worship songs. The EP will have more of an acoustical taste to it. Recently I have been writing a couple of songs with that acoustical taste to it. I have been inspired by listening to Chelsea Williams and Brooke Fraser recently. I have been listening to alot of their music lately and hence the reason for my music coming out more acoustical.
I guess part of the long hiatus or "sabbatical" has been due to the change in majors. At the moment I am taking a break from my regular studies in music and taken a new career path which has been completely unexpected and surprising to me. I am now studying to be a Medical Assistant and will probably continue to get my degree as an R.N. Nonetheless music is a big part of my life and I will get back to studying to get my doctorate in music. Anything is possible when we put our minds to it.
Anywho. Still working on the music. Enough of this vacation. Time to get back to work. Music is the greatest job in my opinion. lol. Both writing and teaching music. =)

Guitar Lessons!
For a while now I've been wanting to start up a project, well not a project, but have been wanting to do a series of videos and upload them on to YouTube. Well I have begun! lol. I have been wanting to do a video series giving guitar lessons. Once a week I will be trying to upload videos giving guitar lessons. Absolutely free.
The first video is now up. In the first lesson we take a look at some types of guitars and the parts of a guitar. I think it is very important for a musician to know their instrument, to at least know the basic parts of what makes their instrument what it is.
For those of you out here in myspace cyberworld and would like to learn how to play guitar the videos will be available to you. In the videos we will be covering music notation and things like that. There will be exercises for you to practice and also sight reading exercises. This should be fun.
You can find the videos on my channel:
http://www.youtube.com/sonianv
You can also find the videos on:
http://sonianvguitar.blogspot.com
On blogger you'll find the youtube video and the text version of the lessons. In the future I will be using blogger along with youtube to make the sheet music available.
I hope you guys enjoy the lessons. If you have any questions on the videos about things I didn't cover or didn't make so clear on the videos just comment me or send me a message and I will be more than glad to help you out.
Enjoy! =)

Finally!
I have internet at home once again. Lol.
Okay so I have been writing new songs. They have more of an acoustical feel to it but I like it and hope you all like it to. In about a month I'm going to set up a short sample of two of the songs I have been working on. It will a couple of seconds not a long sample.
I wrote a congregational song that I presented to one of the worship leaders, mainly cause he asked if I'd written anything that we could use. Lol. I personally was too shy to present but since he asked and was waiting for me to come up with something so we could practice it I presented "La Victoria A Llegado." We have played it a couple of times at church and it has gotten a good response so I am glad. More than anything glad because it leads people into worship. I am going to try and record it next time we play it at church and set it up here.
Last year I wrote a christmas song and am now working on aligning tracks and show a rough demo to my friend of the song and see what he thinks since it was his idea for me to write one. Not that I hadn't thought of writing one before but it was his idea for me to do one last year. lol. Hopefully I will not procrastinate, which I'm not, I'm prophesing that I'm not, and it will be ready this year.
So I'm at work on my music. Also back in school and learning more about music engineering and production. Loving it. Even more closer to my goal of my home studio. I have a mini set up in my room but will be clearing and taking some things out of the living room and will be setting up the "big" not "mini" equipment up. That's the last step in accomplishing my goal. All I need is to buy one of those storage houses to put all the stuff in and we're good to go. =)
Alright, more updates to come later on.

Writing progress
I started off knowing what kind of a sound I wanted the songs I am working on to have but I stopped for a while. During this time I have had much to think about it. Actually read some articles or interviews when it comes to songwriting from artists I look up to like Brooke Fraser, Vicky Beeching, and Darlene Zschech.
During this time I have also had a couple of things on my mind that pretty much got me to thinking what is the real message I want my songs to send. I do not want to just write songs about things I go through in life. Though writing songs like these might connect with whoever will eventually hear them, I want to write something that goes beyond that. Not for me but for whoever will listen to the songs. I want them to get just more than another person who is going or has gone through what they have but offer them a solution, an answer to those situations.
I have decided to take on a new direction on this songwriting business. For now I am going to stop writing my own songs, well not true. I will continue writing my own songs but right now I want to re-record some songs I love. I'm picking 4 or 5 to record and make an EP from those. I am translating these songs to spanish and making my own arrangements to some of these songs. Today I began working and arranging a song that has recently been released this year that is so simple yet so powerful. His Glory Appears written by Darlene Zschech. Amazing song.
This is what I will be working on now.

Song Progress

So there are two new songs I'm working on which i've begun recording. The first one i started working on i put on hold because i wasn't satisfied with how it was coming out but will definitely get back on because its a surprise for a friend I care about. I suck with actual words so decided to write a song.
Alright, so the second song I am working on is pretty much going to be finished maybe by friday. I finally decided on a title and it's going to be, "What Do You Want." Might change title later but still not sure. Finally finished aligning the drum tracks which I put on hold for some weeks. I just finished listening to what I have so far and I'm glad and happy at the fact that I like how it sounds. lol.
I think that "What Do You Want" seems to have a double meaning and depending on how you look at it the meaning can be something good or bad. It was not intentional but somehow that was the outcome. lol. You'll see what I mean when I put it up. Either that or I just have a unique way of thinking and only I can see a double meaning. lol.Anywho, this is becoming too long so I'll stop.
